Understanding the Insurance Process

Property and Casualty policies such as homeowner's policies are an agreement between the insurer and the insured to restore said property in the event of a loss.
There are many different types of policies, some intended to fully restore the property, some only intended to compensate for a certain portion of the loss.
All insurance companies use a standardized system to determine values and costs associated with a loss and the restoration required to restore the property to its original condition. We have been trained in and use the same standardized system (Xactimate) to estimate these costs. Because we can not legally negotiate these prices with your insurance adjuster, access to the same pricing data allows us to price each job consistently and efficiently.
We also work with third parties such as independent appraisers and public adjusters when applicable to ensure that our customers are fully compensated for losses and damage.
In a storm-related loss, the process is usually as follows:
1-An ALL PRO representative provides a free roof inspection
Our representatives are trained to identify damages that are covered by most homeowner's policies. We can usually identify what damages would warrant replacement by the insurer and can advise accordingly.
2-Homeowner reports damage to insurance, an adjuster is assigned.
3-An ALL PRO representative reviews the damage with the insurance adjuster.
This can be very important. The adjuster oftentimes appreciates another set of eyes to assist him or her in the process of identifying any and all applicable damages related to the loss event. This is also an opportunity for our representative to remind the adjuster of certain, often overlooked items such as valley metals, upgraded underlayments, detaching and resetting equipment such as satellite dishes or antennas, gutters, ventilation and disposal fees. We are usually in contact with the same adjuster throughout the duration of the job and oftentimes can submit invoices for supplemental damages discovered during the re-roofing process.
4-Adjuster issues report and ACV check
This report is the agreed upon estimate between the insurer, the insured and the contractor. These items and prices are agreed to and dictated by Xactimate, which we are subscribed to and usually in agreement with. In the event that we identify errors or discrepancies on this report, we will generate our own estimate using the same system and database for the adjuster to review.
There is usually an initial check issued at this time for the Actual Cash Value of the damages, which is the total amount, less the depreciation (amount held back until repairs are completed), less the policy deductible.
This amount is what ALL PRO collects when work begins on the project, in addition to the deductible which comes from the homeowner.
5-ALL PRO completes work as stated on adjuster's report
6-ALL PRO invoices the insurance company for the depreciation
After the work is completed, we submit a final invoice to the insurance company showing that the work is complete and we request the release of the depreciation amount.
7-Final check is issued
The final check will reflect the depreciation amount that was held back initially. This amount is paid to ALL PRO and the invoice will be marked as PAID in FULL.
If a homeowner receives "bids" for repairs that are less than the adjuster's estimate, the insurer will reduce payout to match submitted bids. The insurer will request invoices and documentation to verify. Receiving and submitting lower bids often results in forfeiture of the depreciation amount.
An offer to pay your deductible is a Texas State Jail Felony
